How to Balance Life, Business, and Self-Care as a Busy Female Entrepreneur
I know that you’re juggling a lot, and I mean a lot — maybe you have a full-time job on top of running your business; maybe you have kids (both the human and furry kind). Phew!
As a busy female entrepreneur, I get it. You’re constantly in “go-mode,” always trying to squeeze in one more task, one more meeting, one more project. But if you’re being totally honest, you’re also pretty exhausted. Between everything you’re doing, it feels impossible to take a breather.
But here's the thing — if you’re going to build a sustainable business and maintain your sanity, self-care isn’t just a luxury. It’s a necessity. The truth is, when you don’t make time for yourself, your business will start to feel like a never-ending race, and that’s not the kind of hustle that leads to long-term success.
In this post, I’m sharing some tips on how to balance life, business, and self-care, even if you’re already maxed out. Let’s make sure you’re thriving in all areas of your life, not just surviving.
1. Prioritize Your Time and Set Boundaries
First things first: you’re never going to find balance if you don’t get intentional about how you spend your time. Working a full-time job, raising kids, and growing a business means you need to be super strategic with your hours. This starts with knowing what matters most — both for your business and for your personal well-being. I am very passionate and dedicated to my boundaries because they’ve taken me a long time to develop and learn how to communicate them.
How to Set Boundaries:
Set clear working hours: Establish a set time for when you’re “on” and when you’re “off.” For example, after 6 p.m., your business work can wait until tomorrow. Use this time to unwind or spend with your dog.
Batch tasks: Instead of constantly switching between tasks, batch similar tasks together. For example, designate certain hours for client meetings, content creation, and emails.
Delegate: If you’re feeling overwhelmed with tasks, ask for help! Whether it’s outsourcing business tasks or delegating things like dog care, don’t be afraid to ask for assistance when you need it.
2. Learn to Say “No” (Without the Guilt)
As a busy female entrepreneur, you probably feel the pressure to say “yes” to everything — whether it’s extra work at your full-time job, client requests, or social obligations. But the truth is, you can’t do it all. And that’s okay.
Saying “no” isn’t selfish; it’s a form of self-care. It helps you focus on what truly matters, without burning out.
How to Say “No” Gracefully:
Be honest but kind: If you don’t have the bandwidth, it’s okay to say, “I’d love to help, but I’m at capacity right now.”
Offer an alternative: If you can’t take on something, offer another solution, like recommending someone else or suggesting a later time.
Trust your limits: When you’ve got a lot on your plate, give yourself permission to prioritize your health and business growth — it’s not a competition.
3. Incorporate Self-Care Into Your Daily Routine (Even If It’s Just 10 Minutes)
Self-care is more than just bubble baths and facials — it’s about doing the things that keep you feeling centered and recharged. For me, self-care often looks like grabbing some quiet time before my day gets crazy, squeezing in a Pure Barre class, or taking my dog out for a walk to clear my mind.
Whether you have 10 minutes or 2 hours, make self-care a daily non-negotiable. It might be tempting to push it aside when you’re busy, but in the long run, it actually helps you show up stronger in both your business and personal life.
Easy Self-Care Ideas for Busy Entrepreneurs:
Morning or evening rituals: Take 10 minutes each morning (or before bed) to meditate, journal, or stretch. It doesn’t have to be a big ordeal, just something that grounds you.
Walks with your dog: Seriously — those walks can be your form of moving meditation. Plus, spending time with your dog helps reduce stress and gives you a mental break. My girl, Ella, specifically loves this one!
Take a “do nothing” hour: Just let yourself be. No emails, no Instagram scrolling, just time to recharge. I promise, your business will still thrive when you take time to rest.
4. Automate & Streamline Business Tasks
As an entrepreneur, there’s no shortage of tasks to be done. But you can’t do everything, and you certainly can’t do everything perfectly. So, it’s time to work smarter, not harder.
Automating and streamlining business tasks helps free up time for more important things — like nurturing your creativity, your dog, and your self-care.
Ways to Automate & Streamline:
Use scheduling tools: Tools like Buffer, Later, or Planoly can schedule your social media posts in advance, saving you time every day.
Set up templates: Create email templates for common responses and business processes. This saves you from drafting the same thing over and over again.
Invest in project management tools: Use tools like Asana (my personal fave), Trello, or Monday.com to keep all your tasks organized and prioritize effectively.
5. Lean Into Your Support System
Balancing life and business is easier when you have a strong support system around you. Whether it’s your friends, family, a mentor, or even your dog (yes, they can be supportive too!), don’t underestimate the power of having people who get you and your hustle.
How to Lean on Your Support System:
Ask for help with errands: You don’t have to do everything yourself! Can someone help with grocery shopping or dog care? Free up that time to focus on your business or self-care.
Connect with fellow entrepreneurs: Find a community of like-minded women who understand the challenges of running a business. Their support and insights can make a world of difference. Remember this?
Talk to your dog (yes, seriously!): Sometimes, talking things out with your dog — or even just hanging out with them — helps calm your mind. It’s a little goofy, but it works. I swear, one of these days Ella is going to talk back!
6. Celebrate the Small Wins
When you’re juggling so much, it’s easy to get caught up in what’s not going well or what’s left on your to-do list. But celebrating the small wins — whether it’s landing a new client or just getting through the day — is a huge part of maintaining your motivation and mindset.
How to Celebrate Your Wins:
Give yourself credit: Recognize when you’ve achieved something, no matter how small. Whether it’s finishing a project or getting through the day without burnout, celebrate it.
Reward yourself: Treat yourself to something you love — a new book, a coffee from your favorite place, or a snuggle session with your dog. Small rewards go a long way. TBH I plan to grab a nice crispy diet coke as my reward for writing this blog post!
Final Thoughts: Find Your Own Balance (It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect)
Balancing life, business, and self-care is a constant dance. Some days you’ll feel on top of the world, and other days, you’ll feel like you’re barely keeping up. But that’s okay. You’re doing amazing, and it’s all about finding what works for you.
By setting boundaries, making time for self-care, automating tasks, leaning on your support system, and celebrating the small wins, you can keep your business growing while still maintaining balance in your life. It’s a journey, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but trust me, you’ve got this.
